Research
My research is organized around neurodegenerative disease, structured across three interconnected areas.
Genomic Molecular Diagnostics
APOE isoform genotyping (rs7412 + rs429358) and related regulatory variants associated with Alzheimer’s disease risk. This work builds on an existing track record of genomic and SNP-level analysis, including the characterization of Klotho missense variants (rs9527025 and rs9536314), SNP mapping of the GLP-1 receptor gene, and mutation detection in the Aedes aegypti voltage-gated sodium channel gene. That body of work provides the methodological foundation now applied to Alzheimer’s-related variants.
Gut-Brain Axis / Microbiota
DNA-based microbiota profiling in an elderly population, examining the relationship between gut microbial composition and cognitive status.
Uncaria as a BACE1 Inhibitor
This research tests the neuroprotective potential of wild Uncaria extract as a BACE1 inhibitor in an Alzheimer’s disease animal model.
